spacerProject Profile
Renewable Energy (RE) sources are an important element in India’s power policy to meet the need for power in an environmentally friendly way and to provide power to remote areas. India is the first country to have a dedicated ministry for developing and promoting non-conventional energy sources in the country. Certain forms of Renewable Energy sources (wind energy, small hydro and biomass) have been able to establish a strong presence. However, high capital costs and low plant load factors have made investments economically unviable.

The commercial viability of Renewable Energy projects is enhanced under the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), which encourages foreign funding for investment in cleaner technologies and generating Certified Emission Reductions (CERs) credits, which can be sold to developed countries at a market determined price. However, even with the approved simplified modalities and procedures for small-scale CDM projects, the transaction costs are often prohibitively high for small scale Renewable Energy projects. This is due to both the high cost of documentation and the low carbon prices in the current market.

This website will disseminate the project findings and help the project stakeholders to access ready-to-use standardized baselines for PDD and monitoring procedures for grid-connected Renewable Energy projects for five regional grids in India, which will be updated for the next ten years.
